Obituary

Luong Tien Nguyen, 91, of Shrewsbury Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at 2:00AM on Wednesday August 16th at home surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Nguyen was born in Phu Nhai, Bui Chu, Vietnam in 1932. During his time there, he served as a warrant officer from 1952-1975 before immigrating to the United States in 1982 following the war. In the US, he worked in the maintenance department of the David Clark Company in Worcester MA for 15 years before retiring. As a devout Catholic, Luong was a beloved member of Our Lady of Vilna Church and many other religious groups. He had the honor of being Parish Deputy commissioner in the 80s and also served as the president of the Union of the Holy Spirit for several years in addition to being a eucharistic minister at St. John’s Church. At home, he also partook in many hobbies in his free time. He practiced several instruments, was an avid gardener, and possessed skills like sewing, knitting and embroidering as well. He was well known as a jack of all trades and will be sadly missed by all who knew his kind and compassionate heart.

Luong is survived by his wife of 71 years, Lai T Dinh; three sons: Long Nguyen and his wife Myle of Shrewsbury, Huong Nguyen of Shrewsbury, and John Nguyen of Worcester; five daughters: Loan Nguyen and her husband Diep of OR, Phuong Nguyen of CT, Trang Le and her husband Van of Worcester, Nga Nguyen of Dorchester, and Mai Nguyen of Worcester. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

His funeral is Saturday, August 26th with a Mass at 9:30 A.M. in Our Lady of Vilna Church, 153 Sterling Street, Worcester, please go directly to church. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday, August 25th from 4:00 until 7:00 P.M. in O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, Worcester.
