James J. Houlihan a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died suddenly on Wednesday June 21, 2006 at his home in Charlestown. He was 77 years old.
Jim was born in Newfoundland, Canada on January 4, 1929. He came to Charlestown as a child and attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1951 and served during The Korean Conflict. He was discharged in February of 1953. Jim began working for The City of Boston and served for several years as custodian of the Harvard/Kent School in Charlestown. He retired in 1992.
Jim was the beloved son of the late James J. and Lucy (Smith) Houlihan. He is the beloved brother of John Houlihan and his wife Florence, Marion Simpson and her late husband Eugene, Lucy Gibbon and her late husband George, all of Charlestown. Jim is the loving uncle of many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Jim's Funeral Service will take place on Saturday June 24, 2006 at 11 am. in The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Jim will be held on Friday June 23, 2006 from 3 to 7 pm. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
