Obituary

Worcester: Helge V. Nordstrom, 98, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2023 in UMASS Memorial Medical Center, University Campus surrounded by his loving family. He leaves his wife of 76 years Helen (Nordwell) Nordstrom; a daughter Karen E. Nordstom and her husband John Sampson of Charlton; a son Paul E. Nordstrom and his wife Sue of RI; 6 grandchildren Paetra Tremblay and her husband Joseph, Kyla Sampson and her husband Nilton Casares, Kara Chace and her husband Brandyn, Lindsey Bray and her husband Michael, Curtis Sampson, and Tanya Kittredge and her husband Jason; 8 great grandchildren; a brother Carl Nordstrom and his wife Carol of Charlton; and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers- Hilding and Robert Nordstrom; and by 4 sisters- Esther Thompson, Hilda Peloquin, Alice Nordstrom, and Ethel Swedberg.

Helge was born in Worcester, son of the late Carl and Edith (Westlund) Nordstrom. He graduated from Commerce High School and proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII. He owned and operated Nordstrom Associates, a local manufacturing representative agency for many years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Greendale Men's Club, and pitched for the 1946 semi pro Villanova Restaurant baseball team which won the state title and advanced to the nationals in Wichita, Kansas. He loved baseball and coached for many years in the local Babe Ruth Leagues. He enjoyed golfing and was known to be quite a competitor on the golf course. His greatest love though was his family.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023 from 4-7 p.m. in Nordgren Memorial Chapel 300 Lincoln St. Worcester. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church 73 Lancaster St. Worcester. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery in Shrewsbury.
