Joyce Anne (Cooney) Pedersen, of Franklin MA, passed away on Saturday, August 19 after a long illness. Joyce was born in Chicago, Illinois, October 16, 1948 and was a longtime resident of Franklin. Beloved wife of the late Steven M. Pedersen. She was the daughter of the late James M. Cooney and Joan (Schafer) Cooney. Loving mother of Megan A. Pedersen and Kevin J. Pedersen, both of Franklin, and the late Ryan M. Pedersen.
Treasured sister of Brian J. Cooney and his wife Joanne of Darien, Illinois and Shavaun M. Maher and her husband Steven of Hilton Head, South Carolina. Dear sister in-law of Susan H. Ryckman of Sanibel Island, Florida, Roger F. Pedersen of Chandler, Arizona and Lori D. Finnegan of St. Louis, Missouri.
Devoted Aunt to Jeremy, Lindsey, Michelle, Dustin, Kristen, Meredith, Grant, Caroline, Mitchell and the late Eric Pedersen.
Joyce and her husband lived in Illinois, Ohio and New Jersey before settling in Franklin in 1978 to raise their family. Joyce worked as a medical administrator for over 25 years, first at Holliston Pediatrics and later at The Medical College of Virginia until her retirement in 2014. She was a devout parishioner of St. Mary’s Parish, and a proud supporter of the Franklin School for the Performing Arts. She enjoyed spending time on the Cape, particularly Pocasset and Dennis. Above all, Joyce cherished time with her friends and family.
A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, August 26 at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 1 Church Square, Franklin. For Livestream of Mass: stmarysfranklin.org
Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be on Friday, August 25 from 4:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin.
