TEWKSBURY: Michael D. Peters, age 70, a longtime Tewksbury resident and member of a well-known Tewksbury family, passed away at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Born in Cambridge on November 9, 1952, he was the beloved son of the late Peter M. Peters and the late Catherine M. (Brown) Peters.
Mike was raised in Tewksbury and attended local schools.
Prior to his retirement in 2012, he was employed as a heavy loader equipment operator for the Town of Tewksbury Department of Public Works, where he worked for 25 years. Michael previously worked on the farm at the Tewksbury Hospital from 1974 until 1987, where he assisted in the daily operations of swine management and sanitation.
In recent years, Mike moved to New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he made many friends, enjoyed playing frisbee golf, and was a member of several social organizations including the AM Vets, Eagles, and the Dolphin Sports Club. In addition, Mike was a life member of the Tewksbury Elks Post # 2070.
Michael was the brother of Cathy Peters and her partner, Michael McIntire, of Tewksbury, the late Christine Delaney and her surviving husband Thomas Delaney, Sr. of Tewksbury, Vicki Golen and her husband Rick, David Peters, Maryann Laferriere and her husband Scott, Sandy Martel and her husband Arnie, all of Tewksbury, Philip Peters and his wife Laura (Tremblay), of Littleton, and Patty Martel and her husband Mark, of Tewksbury. He leaves his former sister-in-law, Edna (McIntire) Peters, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family members and friends.
Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, August 16th, from 4-8 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Thursday, August 17th, at 11 a.m. at the Tewksbury Elks, 777 South Street, Tewksbury, MA. Interment of Michael’s ashes will be held privately.
