STANDISH- James Mason Pottle, also known to those who love him as, “Jim”, “Grandpa”, “Papa”, “Dad”, and “Jimmy”, age 87, passed away peacefully at Gosnell Hospice House on July 6, 2023.
He was born on February 13, 1936, in Perry, Maine to the late Ernest and Cora Pottle.
James was predeceased by his five siblings, Lilly, Alice, Russel, Arnold, and Catherine.
James is survived by his cherished wife of 50 years-Merlene Pottle and seven children- Cindy and Mike Roberts of Limington, Ray and Christine Pottle of Carmel, David and Debbie Woodbury of Standish, Bonnie and Kevin Crowe of East Wakefield, NH, James and Rosa Woodbury of Gorham, Brent and Heather Pottle of Wilton, and Renay Pottle of Standish; He is also survived by nineteen grandchildren- Mikie, Katie, Sandy, Mary, Sonya, Alisa, Brianna, Joe, Jamie-Lynn, Devon, Patrick, Johnny, Austin, Karter, Ki, Morghyn, Lucas, Brian, and Cara; along with seventeen great-grandchildren.
Jimmy started his professional career fishing the weirs in Perry, Maine. Eventually moving to Portland and kickstarting his auto mechanic career. He spent 11 years at Hamilton’s Service Center. Next on his journey he became part owner of Ridlon’s Alignment Center, also in Portland. It wasn’t long before he moved to Limington, Maine where he opened his own shop, Pottle’s Alignment and Service in Limington, Maine.
Upon retiring from this career field, he became a very well-loved custodian in the Bonny Eagle School system. Also, during this time, he joined the Standish Congregational Church where he performed the duties of Sexton and Deacon.
Some of Jimmy’s favorite things to do in his spare time were four- wheeling, snowmobiling, boating, and camping. He enjoyed old westerns country music and audio books. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life is planned for August 19, 2023, at 11am. It will be held at the Standish Congregational Church, 25 Oak Hill Road, Standish, Maine or via zoom:
