Robert A. (Bob) Nelson, age 83, died peacefully following a lengthy illness on Friday, July 21, 2023, at his home in Chula, Georgia.
A graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Leeann Culbreath on Tuesday, July 25, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton. Pallbearers are Garrison Jones, Seth Thompson, Dr. Don Webb, Greg Nelson, Orrin Deason, and Bob Muterspaugh. A visitation and reception will follow the service at St. Annes’s Parrish Hall.
Born on November 14, 1939, in Tifton, Georgia, Bob was the son of the late James Rex Nelson and Mable (Sissy) Kelly Nelson. He loved playing golf at Spring Hill Country Club and was a member of the Tifton Elks Lodge and the Tifton Shrine Club. Friends will miss Bob’s humor and kindness – he was easygoing and pleasant to be around and loved his grandchildren.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Donna Thigpen Nelson of Chula; his daughters, Pam Nelson Truesdale, Albany, GA, Meredith Jones, Tifton, and Kate Thompson (Seth), Tifton; his son, Garrison Jones (Shannon) Ty Ty, and his brother, Jim Nelson of Tifton. Grandchildren; Leigh Ann Ivey, Atlanta, GA; Hunter Yancey, Drew Jones (Kaela), Macy Thorne, Ava, Adeline, Hadley, and Grady Thompson, all of Tifton. Great grandchildren; Audrey Thorne and Charlie Kate Jones of Tifton. A niece, Kelly Nelson and nephew, Greg Nelson, also of Tifton.
