Obituary

PRAUGHT, Martha Ann, MD Of Dedham, was born on March 19, 1957 and peacefully passed away on July 19, 2023. Her early years were spent in West Roxbury. Her life was marked by determination, resilience, and a compassionate spirit that touched countless lives.

Martha was a graduate of Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame where she obtained a BS in Biology. Driven by her passion for medicine, she became a physician and obtained more than five board certifications, becoming a respected and accomplished psychiatrist.

Martha faced adversity early in life when she was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in 1971. Despite enduring numerous medical challenges, Martha never wavered in her determination and simply carried on. She inspired those around her with her strength and positive outlook.

A lifelong lover of travel and flying, Martha held a special affection for Nantucket, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life. She cherished outdoor activities such as skiing, biking, and camping, finding joy and serenity in nature.

Throughout her career and personal life, Martha was known for her compassion and selflessness. She was never just a patient; she continued to serve as a doctor until the very end, dedicated to helping others in their times of need.

Martha touched the lives of many, reaching out with care and concern whenever someone was ill. Her acts of kindness and support left an indelible impact on the lives of countless individuals, a testament to the remarkable person she was.

Martha was the beloved daughter of the late Ann Hennessey Praught and Joseph W. Praught, Jr. She was a devoted sister to the late Joseph III and his surviving wife Jeanne, Stephen and his wife Tammy, her wonderful sister Ann and her late husband Dominic R. DiVirgilio, Jr, Mary and her husband David Rozewski, and Ellen and her husband Matthew Booth. She was a loving aunt to Elizabeth and her husband Ian Price and their daughter Ellie, Carolyn Arnold and her husband Jake, Joseph W. Praught IV, Michael Rozewski, Annie Rozewski, and Emily Deneault and her husband Mike. She also leaves her dear uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues whom she greatly treasured.

Visiting hours in memory of Martha will be held at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham on Thursday, July 27 from 4:00-8:00pm and on Friday, July 28 from 4:00-8:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham on Saturday, July 29 at 10:00am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Burial will follow in Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham
