Ruth M. Carroll, 84, of Winchester, died on June 15 in Winchester Hospital after a long illness. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph “Hughie” and Mary (Healey) Carroll. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Winchester and graduate of Winchester High School with the class of 1938. For many years she was employed as a secretary with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company.
Ruth generously donated her time as a volunteer and parishoner at the former Immaculate Conception Church in Winchester. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and was fond of fashioning Irish nit sweaters and afghans.
She was the dear sister of Peg Gallagher of Woburn, Shirley Kean of Scarborough, ME and the late James Carroll. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held from the Costello Funeral Home, 177 Washington St. Winchester on Mon., June 19 @ 10 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Barbara’s church, 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn at 11 AM. Visiting hours are Sunday 4-8 PM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to WGBH, P.O.
