Stephen Michael Costa, 14, of New Bedford died Saturday June 17, 2006 at New England Medical Center. He was the beloved son of Marc D. and Sharon L. (Mulvey) Costa.
A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was a communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church and an honorary graduate of St. Joseph-St. Therese School.
Stephen was a ten year cancer survivor. He was considered a miracle boy to his family, doctors, and caregivers. He regularly participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. He enjoyed drawing, bowling, and playing pool, and was formerly involved in the Boys Scouts. He was a member of the St. Maria Goretti Youth Group of his parish.
Survivors include parents; two brothers, Marc Costa Jr. and his companion Jennifer Hall of North Attleboro, and Kaiden Costa of New Bedford; two sisters, Melissa Furtado and her husband Scott, and Michelle Costa, all of New Bedford; his grandparents, Mildred Renaud of New Bedford and Daniel and Yvette Costa of Acushnet; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He was the grandson of the late Sylvio Renaud and Edward Mulvey.
His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Stephen M.
