Obituary

Aphrodite (James) Nichols, 88, of Worcester died Sunday, July 9th in the Lutheran Home. Her husband of 24 years, John P. Nichols died in 1977. She leaves three sons, Peter Nichols of Seminole, FL, Arthur J. Nichols and his wife, Barbara of Worcester, and Gregory J. Nichols and his wife, Jill of Venice, FL; a daughter, Angela C. Nichols-Raptis and her husband, Luckie of Worcester; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Anthony and George James.
She was born in Worcester the daughter of Thomas and Angelina (Argiriou) James. Aphrodite was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and was on the first steering for the festival in 1976, the Philoptochos Board, the Mother’s Guild, and sang in the choir since she was 16.
Aphrodite and her husband owned and operated Steven’s Spa on Belmont Street for many years. She then worked for Automatic Rolls for 10 years and retired from Astra Pharmaceutical where she worked for 15 years.
The family would like to thank Summit Health Care, the Lutheran Home, Grace, Peter, and Pattie for the wonderful care and compassion Aphrodite received.
Her funeral is Wednesday, July 12th with a service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street, Worcester, MA 01609.
