Popeo, R. Robert “Bob” of Needham passed away at home on July 3, 2023 surrounded by loved ones after a long illness. Bob was an icon of the Boston business, legal and philanthropic communities, but his true calling was as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda, his sister Mary, his 5 children: Bob and wife Allison, Paul and wife Susanne, Steven and wife Michaela, Diane and husband Brian Andersen, Karen, and his 11 grandchildren. The sixth child of Italian immigrants, Bob grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High School, Northeastern University and Boston College Law School. His boundless energy and incredible warmth touched the lives of countless clients, friends, lawyers, students and others seeking guidance and encouragement.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 12, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Church, 1382 Highland Avenue, Needham. Visiting hours for Bob will be held Tuesday evening, July 11, from 4-8 PM at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 1305 Highland Avenue, Needham, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob's name to the R. Robert Popeo Endowed Scholarship Fund at Boston College Law School or the East Boston Social Center.
