William Thomas Power, 85, of Franklin, MA died peacefully in Milford, MA surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in Boston, July 2, 1937, to John and Christine Powers, he was the youngest of eight children. Bill spent his early childhood in Jamaica Plain across from Blessed Sacrament Church and attended Saint Mary's High School in Brookline MA. He attended the State College at Boston and received a B.S degree in Education. After college he joined the Army Reserve during the Vietnam War and began his teaching career for the City of Boston, teaching History and Civics.
Bill had a passion for music at an early age and participated in local variety shows and church performances. He continued singing with The Silvertones at the Franklin Senior Center. They performed at local nursing homes and various senior center functions. Bill was an avid reader and enjoyed history books, daily newspapers, crossword puzzles, and Robert Parker fiction novels. He also loved to include his family in his passion for cooking and gathering with us all.
He played team sports in high school and enjoyed coaching local sports teams for his children. He truly loved watching all the Boston sports teams play.
In addition to his wife Helen, he is survived by his children, Richard Power of Franklin, John Power of Franklin, Karen Gurley and her husband William of Franklin. He was the father of the late Lauren Arms Ledwith and Dr. James Ledwith of Franklin.
William is also survived by his siblings Daniel Power and wife Elizabeth of Wellesley and Barbara Higgins and husband Al of Townsend.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Nicole, Richard Jr., Alyssa, Katherine, Grace, Anna, Julia, Michael and wife Jessica, Allison and husband Zachary, and his first great grandson Lucas William.
A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, June 28 at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be private at a later date.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. at the Ginley Funeral Home, 131 Main Street, Franklin MA 02038 (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com)
