Genell E. Sugrue, 84, of Johnston, passed on Monday, June 5, 2023 at Hope Health Inpatient Center in Providence. She was the widow of Thomas P. Sugrue who died in 2001.
Born in Smithfield-Johnston County, North Carolina, she was a daughter of the late James Edward Eason and Mozelle Creech Eason. She had most recently lived in Johnston.
Genell had worked as a Security officer at TF Greene Airport in Warwick and at Blue Cross in Providence for many years. She enjoyed telling jokes, playing cards and going to the casino with friends. She also loved country music, quilting, and cooking. She always made sure everyone was well fed and taken care of.
Genell is survived by her beloved daughter: Dena Lucia and her husband, Jack of Foster, her grandchildren: Jessyka, Nicole and Jack A. Lucia. She is also survived by another daughter, Susan Johnson, grandaughter Rayna L’Europa, and her great grandson, Michael Bogda, her siblings: Wanda Langdon of Dunn, NC and Jennifer Ferrell of Stedman, NC and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joyce Thornton, Lolita Godwin, Shirley Parker, Judy Buffkin and James and David Eason.
Funeral Wednesday at 12 noon from the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Rt 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville. Committal service will be at 1:30pm in St. Francis Cemetery Chapel, Pawtucket. In lieu of flowers donations in Genell's memory may be made to Hasbro Children's Hospital-Children's Miracle Network Department, PO Box H, Providence, RI 02903.
