Obituary

THOMPSON, CT – Thomas F. Burns, Sr., 87, died Friday June 2, 2023 in St. Francis Hospital, Hartford, after a brief illness.

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Shelia A. D. (Govina) Burns; 2 sons, Thomas F. Burns, Jr. and his companion Bobbi Jo Dietz of Youngstown, OH and Daniel B. Burns of Thompson; 2 grandsons, Shawn P. Burns and Christopher P. Burns; a brother, Walter F. Burns, Jr. of Kent, OH; a sister, Elizabeth Simonelli of Worcester; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his sister Beverly Riess.

He was born on June 22, 1935 in Webster, MA, a son of Walter F. Burns, Sr. and Stasia (Triba) Burns. He attended Bartlett Trade High School in Webster and then earned his diploma from Harvard H. Ellis Technical School in Danielson.
He received an Associate’s Degree in Electronics from Worcester Junior College in Worcester, MA.

He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Mr. Burns began his career as an electrical technician for IBM, He also worked at the American Optical Company in Southbridge, MA before retiring from Sprague Electric in Worcester, MA in 1997. Before retirement, he owned and operated Sound Repair in Webster, MA an electronics repair store

He and his wife had a love of animals and the outdoors, which included their horse farm, horseback riding, motorcycling, snow mobiling, kayaking, guns and bird watching. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, June 14 in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, MA , with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. Donations in his name may be made to the DAV, 30 Ray Street, Webster, MA 01570. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main Street, Webster, MA.
