SHREWSBURY___Lorraine A. (Kroll) Popowicz, Ph.D, 83 formerly of Shrewsbury died on May 27, 2023 in St. Vincent Hospital, 123 Summer Street, Worcester after a brief illness.
Lorraine was born in Webster the daughter of the late Theodore and Hedwig (Klewiec) Kroll. Lorraine was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Andrew Popowicz, DDS and her brother, Richard A. Kroll. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Frances Kroll, many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Dr. Popowicz graduated from St. Mary’s High School in 1957. She attended Holy Family University in Philadelphia and received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Biology in 1961. She then pursued her Masters Degree in Science Education at Worcester State University graduating in 1971. She continued her education at Boston College, receiving her Ph.D. in Science Education in 1974. Throughout her educational pursuits, Lorraine taught sciences at various schools, among them St. Mary’s High School and Holy Name Central Catholic High School. In 1975, Dr. Popowicz began her affiliation at Anna Maria College in Paxton as an Associate Professor of Biology. In 1989 Dr. Popowicz was promoted to Professor of Biological Sciences. She served in that capacity until her retirement. Lorraine was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Czestochowa parish. She was an avid reader and appreciated partaking in the arts. She particularly enjoyed horticulture.
A calling hour will be on Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 9:00 - 10:00 A.M. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. Burial to follow in Notre Dame Cemetery. HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
