Obituary

Roger Whitehead, 88, lost his battle with Multiple Myeloma on June 2, 2023.

He was the son of Rex and Ruth Whitehead and a lifelong resident of Anderson, except for four years as a corpsman with the US Navy /Marines.

Roger was a 1953 graduate of Anderson High School. He was an outstanding athlete during his high school days. After High School, he attended IU briefly and graduated from Ball State in 1960. He began his teaching career at Highland High School in 1960 and later taught in the Anderson Community Schools from 1965 to 1992.

Playing for the Middletown Oilers semi-pro baseball team in the late 1950s was a special time in his life.
Spending winter months in Destin, Florida, fishing and playing tennis were his favorites.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Sylvia Snyder Whitehead; his children, Kelli (John) Mills, Kerri (Dan) Kase, Eric (Kim) Whitehead; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and his dog, Charlee.

Also surviving are many wonderful tennis buddies and several long-time friends. Another special tennis and fishing buddy, Jerry Fouts, took him for his last and final fishing outing last week.

The family is planning a very special private celebration in Roger’s memory.
