Obituary

DUDLEY – Evelyn L. (Kozlowski) Helpa, 93, died Wednesday, May 31, 2023 in Harrington Healthcare at Hubbard after a period of declining health. Her husband of 65 years, Edward J. “Whitey” Helpa, died in 2017.

She leaves 4 children, Jon J. Helpa and his wife Lisa of Hatfield, David P. Helpa and his wife Joan of Oxford, Maryellen Fuller and her husband Michael of Devine, TX, and James M. Helpa of Brattleboro, ‘VT; 3 grandchildren, Nicholas and Sarah Helpa and Molly Fuller; 3 great-grandchildren, Keeley, Quinn and Chesney; a sister, Sylvia Bates of Dudley; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother Al Kozlowski and by her sister Virginia Gould.

She was born on February 26, 1930 at home on Schofield Avenue, the second child of Alex F. and Vera (Krzywicki) Kozlowski and lived here all of her life. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1948.

Mrs. Helpa was a cook at Shepherd Hill Regional High School for many years before she retired.

She was a member of Saint Andrew Bobola Church. She liked cooking and ceramics. She and her husband loved to go on tours all over the world.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 on Friday, July 28, in Saint Joseph Garden of Peace, Old Worcester Road, Webster. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf and Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
