Obituary

Paul Holmes, 79 years old, of Bourne MA, formerly of Hanson, MA, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Wednesday May 31, 2023, after a courageous battle with Mesothelioma cancer.

Paul was a loving and devoted husband to Pamela for 60 years. His love of family was immeasurable.

He was the loving father to Christopher Holmes and wife Dayna, Brian Holmes and wife Deborah, Michelle Carroll and her husband Wayne. His most cherished grandchildren were Shane and Justin Holmes, Rachel Devilly and husband Michael, Wayne Carroll and fiancé Victoria, Shannon Carroll, Brett and Rylee Holmes. He also leaves behind his sisters Carol Walker, Elora Gerrish, sister-in-laws Eileen Holmes and Doreen Holmes, brother-in-law Frank Callahan and wife Libet.

Paul was predeceased by his parents Fred and Martha Holmes, and two brothers Frederick and Melvin Holmes and survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends considered family.

Paul was an outstanding athlete his entire life. In high school he played football, baseball, and basketball and was a member of the class of 1962. A proud accomplishment was his induction into the Silver Lake High School Hall of Fame as a member of the 1962 baseball team. Paul was very involved in class reunions and enjoyed staying in touch with classmates.

Paul was a mill worker at Armstrong Worldwide Industries in Braintree for 30+ years, as well as groundskeeper for many area golf courses.

Paul lived an active healthy lifestyle and participated in six Pan Mass challenge full bike races supporting Dana Farber Cancer Institute. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved camping, canoeing, snowshoeing, biking, and walking the Cape Cod canal with his beautiful bride Pam.

Paul had a love for photography. He proudly photographed every sport his grandchildren participated in and was an award-winning nature photographer including wildlife and natural landscapes.

Paul was the family patriarch. He planned annual family reunions for over 30 years, always preparing a passionate speech and toast.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours Tuesday June 6th, from 4:00-7:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. With a service to follow at 7:00 PM in the funeral chapel.
