Obituary

Charles S. Christy, 78, of Fitchburg, died Thursday, May 25th in the Highlands Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fitchburg surrounded by his family. He is survived by his two sons, Michael Christy and his wife Cristina of Holden and Matthew Christy of Westfield; five grandchildren, Parker, Mallory, Ja'Kihh, Isla and Caroline. He also leaves his long-time companion, Cheryl Maguy-Stewart and her children, Nicholas Stewart, and Timothy and his wife Leila and their children, Emma, Kennedy and Maverick. Charlie is also survived by several nephews and a niece each of whom he loved dearly. He was predeceased by his brothers, Andrew and Dimitri Christy; his sister Helen Christy; and his step-father, Steve G. Gabas.

He was born in Piraeus, Greece, the son of Steve J. and Athena (Johns) Christy. Charlie was very proud of his Greek heritage and known affectionately by some as “Kostas”. Charlie lived in Worcester and Holden for much of his life, where he went to school and practiced law. Later in life, he moved to Fitchburg with Cheryl where they enjoyed spending time together walking their two dogs, and taking trips to Massachusetts beaches. Charlie also enjoyed giving back to the Fitchburg community, and each year served as the “special guest” at the Park Hill Pizza Christmas Day Community Meal. He also cherished his time with friends enjoying coffee at Dunkin Donuts, and he would often be found at the center of political debates. But, Charlie’s greatest joy was the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

All services will be private. A memorial contribution in Charlie’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund, 200 Vesey Street, 28th Floor, New York, NY 10281 or the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network,1500 Rosecrans Avenue, Suite 200, Manhattan Beach, CA 90266.
