Obituary

Marylyn L. (Shea) Murphy, 73, of Canton, passed away unexpectedly on May 24, 2023. Predeceased by her parents, Edward and Shirle Shea, she was raised in Roslindale as part of a large and loving family.
Marylyn was the beloved wife of Kevin F. Murphy for 51 years and made Canton their home in 1977 where she was a devoted mother to Christine Hanrahan and her husband John of Attleboro, Jennifer Obrey and her husband Chad of Pawcatuck, CT, Shawn Murphy of Easton, and Erin Doak and her husband Jeremy of Attleboro. Marylyn was a proud NaNa to 11 cherished grandchildren: Chad Jr., Connor, Patrick, Justin, Trevor, Emily, Shane, Brayden, Reagan, Lorelai and Rylin.
Marylyn was also a loving sister to Janis Shea of Orleans, Gerald Shea of GA, Monica Welsh of OH, Deidre Shea of Chelmsford, Edward Shea of Foxboro, David Shea of CA, Amelia Shea-Koufos of Marshfield, Beverly Shea of Norfolk, and Lora Shea of Boston. She was Aunt Mal to numerous nieces and nephews.
Marylyn graduated from Roslindale High School before pursuing her passion for nursing at the Shephard-Gill School of Practical Nursing in Boston. She worked at the Faulkner Hospital and the American Red Cross. Marylyn lived to care for others and volunteered her time and expertise as an active member of her community. She was a proud member of the Canton Garden Club and the Community Club of Canton. Marylyn also enjoyed swim class with a group called “The Mermaids”, fostering friendships and a sense of camaraderie among fellow swimmers.
Above all, Marylyn cherished spending time with her family, attending her grandchildren’s functions and sporting events, cheering for the Boston Red Sox, and decorating cakes for birthdays and special occasions.
Marylyn’s family and friends are grateful for her unconditional love, unwavering support and encouragement she so freely shared. Rest in peace, Marylyn.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home, 455 Washington St., Canton on Tuesday, May 30 from 4:00 to 7:00pm. Funeral Mass at St. Oscar Romero Church, 700 Washington St., Canton on Wednesday, May 31 at 10:00am. Burial to follow at Mt. Benedict Cemetery, W. Roxbury.
In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree or flowers in remembrance of Marylyn or a donation in her name to the Canton Garden Club at P.O. Box 129, Canton, MA 02021.
