Obituary


BUXTON- Robert G. Smith, 87, of Buxton, Maine, died peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at home. He was the husband of Patsy (Johnson) Smith. Born in Saco, a son of the late Earl and Mary (Matthews) Smith.

He leaves a son, Robert Smith, and his wife Cheryl; a daughter, Karen Jimmis, and her husband Albert; four grandchildren, Alisha, Jessica, Tyler, and Robert Smith; and a sister, Margaret Ricker. He also leaves three step-grandchildren, Samantha, Baylee and Abby, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Elizabeth Carr, Earl Smith, William Smith, Raymond Smith, Barbara Smith, and Larry Smith.

He graduated from Thornton Academy in 1954 and then served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Leyte. He lived in Rhode Island for almost 50 years where he worked as a general contractor and served as a volunteer Cranston Firefighter. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Rhode Island College and then went on to be the Industrial Arts Department Chair at Scituate High School. He also coached both football and basketball at the high school as well as Cranston Western Little League baseball. In 2005, he and his wife moved to their home on Bonny Eagle Pond where he loved to work outside on his property.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday May 31st from 1 – 3 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt.22), Buxton, ME. Burial will be private. Online condolences can be submitted at the funeral home website, www.mainefuneral.com.
