Obituary

Daniel Edward Sprague,78, of Dover, New Hampshire passed away surrounded by the love of his family at Massachusetts General Hospital on Saturday May 20, 2023.

He was the beloved husband of Christine (DelPozzo) Sprague. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on September 30th 2022.

Born in Charlestown, on September 30, 1944, he was the youngest of seven children of the late Francis A. Sprague and Catherine (Riley) Sprague.

Dan was raised in Charlestown and Somerville. He graduated from Somerville High School and attended Northeastern University.

In 1965 he entered the US Army and served during the Vietnam War Era. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the M-14 Rifle Marksman Badge as well as the M-1 Rifle Expert Badge.

When he returned from active duty he worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad then later was employed as a driver for the Teamsters Union Local 25 where he worked for over 30 years.

He and Chris resided in Tewksbury, on Redgate Road, for 37 years before moving to Dover, NH in 2010.

While in Tewksbury he was a member of the Patriotic Activities Committee, Saint William's Church Men's Club, and the Father Coppens Council Knights of Columbus.

Dan enjoyed his family and friends. He was an active participant in his children's activities .......sports, scouts, dance, camping. He enjoyed golf at many local courses with friends and family members. When he and Chris travelled, he often played at courses in the Caribbean, Florida, South Carolina, and many places in New England. After retirement he worked as a ranger at the Links at Outlook in South Berwick Maine.

Dan will always be remembered for his love and support of his family. He found much joy in his role as "PaPa" to his eight cherished grandchildren.

He was a "die hard" Patriots and Red Sox fan and took a strong interest in politics and current events.

He will be missed!

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Daniel E. Sprague Jr. and his wife Gillian, of Pepperell; Michael P. Sprague and his wife Jill of Lowell; Karen A. Morris and her husband Corey of North Reading: his eight grandchildren, Gavin Sprague, Ayla Sprague, Estelle Sprague and William Sprague, Emelia Morris, James Morris and Colby Morris and Benjamin Steeves.
He was predeceased by his daughter Elizabeth C. Sprague.
He was the brother of Jean Bando and her husband Anthony of Medford, Joan Shultz and her husband James of Manchester, NH, John Sprague of Mexico, Margaret Hennigan and her partner Dick Murphy of Melrose, Francis A. Sprague Jr. and his wife Geri of Everett and the late Leo Scales.
He was the brother-in law of Carol Brock and her husband Ed of Rhode Island, John DelPozzo and his wife MaryLu of Florida, the late Peter DelPozzo and his surviving wife Nancy of Massachusetts and the late Nancy Stemple and her surviving husband Greg of South Carolina.
He also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Family and friends will be received on Tuesday May 30th from 9-11AM at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street Tewksbury, Massachusetts, immediately followed by a funeral procession to St. William's Church, 1351 Main Street in Tewksbury where his funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30AM.
