Obituary

David A. Rose, Sr., 52, of New Bedford died May 19, 2023 unexpectedly at home.
He was the husband of Glyness G. (Lima) Rose, with whom he shared 28 years of marriage.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of David H. Rose of New Bedford and he was raised by his late grandmother, Dorothy "Dot" Rose. He lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was employed as a district manager for the Department of Youth Services (DYS) for 24 years. He received the Performance Recognition Award in 2016 for his public service and commitment at DYS from Governor Charles Baker.
David was a stand out basketball player playing for Central Connecticut State University and Dean College. He was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame at Dean College and the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010. He was a devoted father, family man and loving husband who had an inviting humorous personality. His laughter, intellect and spirit was contagious and positively impacted EVERYONE!
Survivors include his wife; his 4 children, David A. Rose, Jr, Daiquan Rose, and his twins, Chiron Rose and Dante Rose, all of New Bedford; his father, David H. Rose; his mother-in-law, Emily (Pina) Lima of New Bedford; his sister-in-law, Wendy-Jo Jackson and her husband David of New Bedford; 3 uncles, Dean Rose, Dwayne Rose and Derek Rose, all of New Bedford; 2 nephews, David Andino, Jr. and Brenton Jackson; and his cousins, Maria Elena Grace, Calvin Grace, Chanelle Grace, Deanna Tavares and Celena Rose.
His visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, May 24th from 4-8 PM at the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 25th at 11 AM in the funeral home followed by burial in Rural Cemetery.
