Obituary

CHICOPEE – Donna M. (Leahy) Surprenant, 70, of the Willimansett Heights section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, May 18, 2023. She passed peacefully into Eternal Life at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield. She was born in Springfield on January 22, 1953, a beloved daughter of the late William F. and May E. (Nichols) Leahy. She was raised in Chicopee, graduated from Chicopee High School, and was a lifelong resident of the city. She was employed a Certified Nurse Assistant at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield and retired in 2020. She was a dedicated person, who selflessly cared for her husband and many others during times of illness. Donna’s love for the Lord was unparallel. She was active in her Catholic faith and was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville. Above all, Donna loved spending time with her family and many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Paul L. Surprenant who was Called Home on October 10, 2021. They were married on February 5, 1982 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 39 years of marriage. She leaves her two loving children, Daniel P. “Dan” Surprenant and his wife, Sarah, of Chicopee and Rebecca M. “Becky” Morin and her husband, Michael, of Chicopee; her four cherished grandsons, D.J. and Andrew Surprenant and Jacob and Joshua Morin; her dear sister, Laura Scribner of South Hadley; her sister in law, Louise Leahy, of Chicopee; her brother in law, Dennis H. Surprenant and his wife, Debbie, of Feeding Hills; her three sisters in law, Linda S. Garcia and her husband, Alberto “Beto” Garcia of Annapolis, MD, Jeanne M. Modzanowski and her husband, John Modzanowski of Feeding Hills and Diane M. Peters and her husband, Michael “Mike” Peters of Feeding Hills; and her many nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, William Leahy; her sister, Muriel Hunter; and her two brothers in law, James W. “Jim” Surprenant and John R. Surprenant. Her family will receive friends on Thursday, May 25, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her Burial will follow the Prayer Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
