Obituary

Marie E. Smith, 72, of Woonsocket died Sunday May 14, 2023 at Hope Health Philip Hulitar Care Center in Providence. Marie was the wife of the late Jean “Smitty” Smith. They were married for many years until Smitty’s passing in 1990. Marie found love again and shared the past 30 years as the loving companion with Rodney L. Guilbeault of North Smithfield.
Marie was born in Holyoke, MA, a daughter of the late Gerald A. and Corinne (Benoit) Lapirerre. She moved with her family to the Northern Rhode Island area as a young child. Marie lived in North Smithfield for many years where she raised her family. She was the resident of Woonsocket for the past 30 years.
In her earlier years Marie worked at Hasbro Toys Corp. in Pawtucket. She also worked at the St. James Hotel in Woonsocket. Marie was employed by CVS warehouse in Woonsocket for many years before retiring.
Marie was a member of the Manville Sportsmen Club. She liked to go fishing and attended many dinners and functions at the club. Marie was talented at arts and crafts and making bird houses.
Marie was a loving mother and grandmother. Her most favorite times were spent camping with her family especially at Franconia Notch in New Hampshire.
Marie will be remembered as a friendly and caring person. Although she could be quiet when she first met someone she soon warmed up and made you feel comfortable and at ease. Marie was a vert devoted mother and her family takes comfort in her being called home to Heaven on Mother’s Day.
Marie is survived by her four children including her two sons John Smith and his wife Danielle of Manville, Jesse Smith of Woonsocket and her two daughters Tina Smith of Tennessee and Jennifer Berg and her companion Treff Tourville of Uxbridge. She was the proud grandmother of Jessy Smith of Maine, Meghan Berg of North Carolina and Christopher and Kayle Smith both of Manville. She was the sister of Jerry Lapierre and his companion Kat Lasardo of Blackstone, Lorraine Jetti and her late husband Albert of Woonsocket and Helen Lapierre-Wren of Pascoag.
Marie is survived by her longtime loving companion Rodney Guilbeault.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews and their families. She was the aunt of the late Gerald G. Lapierre, Jr.
In accordance with her wishes all services for Marie are private. In lieu of flowers and in recognition of her brave battle with ovarian cancer memorial donations may be made to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition at www.ovarian.org. or any other organization in the fight against ovarian cancer.
