Obituary

Groton Long Point — Hugo Eugene Grieshaber Ill, was born, raised, and lived his life in Southeastern Connecticut, finally settling in Groton Long Point with his sister. Hugo served as a driver and later as an aide for Curtin Transportation Group transporting and supporting special needs youth for over 10 years. He treated the young people in his care with the utmost patience, kindness, and respect. And, in turn, they loved and respected him for it. He also enjoyed teaching young people fishing and crabbing, especially his grandson, Jake.
The son of architect, H. Eugene Grieshaber Jr. and artist Edith Grieshaber Cowles, Hugo was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Hugo died May 14, 2023, after a battle with esophageal cancer. A loyal, kindhearted family man who listened more than he spoke, Hugo is survived by his sister Gretchen Higgins; son James Grieshaber; grandsons, Jake and James Grieshaber; granddaughter Jaiden Grieshaber; daughter-in-law Suzanne Grieshaber; nephews, Peter Higgins, Christopher Higgins (Danielle) and their children, Ronin and Colette. He was preceded in death by twin sisters, Frederica and Katrina. Hugo will be sorely missed by family and friends.
