Obituary

Robert P. McLoughlin, 68, of Worcester, passed away on Thursday, May 18th after a period of declining health. Bobby was the beloved son of the late Robert J. and Margaret (Shannon) McLoughlin. He is survived by his dedicated brother and biggest supporter John McLoughlin of Woodstock, CT as well as his sister-in-law Lauren and nieces Margaret and Kathryn.
Bobby had beautiful blue eyes and a mischievous but playful disposition. He was non-verbal since birth but those who spent time with him knew exactly what he wanted or needed them to do. Born with Down’s Syndrome, Bobby was always pure, genuine, gentle, loving and kind. Without uttering a word, he taught all who spent time with him to be better human beings and about the importance of appreciating those with differing abilities.
The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the many who cared for Bobby during his remarkable lifetime, including the staffs of the Mercy Centre, Seven Hills, HMEA Sterling, Department of Developmental Services, the ARC of Opportunity, most recently, St. Vincent Hospital and Rose Monahan Hospice. The family is especially grateful to, and appreciative of, the dedicated workers and friends who shared their lives with Bobby at his group residence. Thank you for providing a safe and loving home for him.
Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 22nd from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME. His funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 23rd from the funeral home with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Our Lady of the Angels Church, 1222 Main Street. Following the funeral, Bobby will be laid to rest with his parents at St. John’s Cemetery. Flowers may be sent to the funeral home or donations made in Bobby’s memory to the ARC of Opportunity, 564 Main St., Fitchburg, MA 01420.
