BOWES, Joanne Marie of Hingham, formerly of Roslindale passed away unexpectedly at her home on May 13, 2023. Daughter of the late Lillian (Gravina) and Arthur Bowes, Joanne was raised in a loving multi-family home surrounded by her parents, grandparents, brothers, sister, aunts, uncles and cousins. Her love and pride of family and friends remained constant in her life.

Joanne was a loving and caring big sister/friend to Patty Bowes Phillips and her husband Gregg of Hingham. She was more like a 2nd mother than an aunt to her nephew Patrick Phillips. Joanne was the loving and adoring sister of her late big brothers Arthur and Richard Bowes. Joanne is survived by her brothers’ families. Arthur’s wife Pat Bowes, daughter Joyce and husband David McDonnell, and daughter Cheryl Bowes, Arthur and Pat’s Grandchildren Allison and Audrey. Richard’s wife Jean Bowes, and their sons Stephen and Kevin Bowes and Richard and Jean’s granddaughter Emma.

In Joanne’s time of need, during and after her 2014 Central Nervous System Lymphoma and Eye Cancer diagnosis, both Gregg and Patrick did all they could to assist in keeping Joanne safe, happy and healthy in her home and succeeded. Joanne knew how much she was loved.

Joanne was a graduate Roslindale High School, UMass Boston and later went on to take accounting classes at Boston College. Joanne worked in hospitals her whole career, starting out at New England Deaconess while attending college and finishing her career as a Purchasing Manager at Memorial Hospital in Rhode Island before her diagnosis. We often said her career in the hospitals made her feel at home when she was a patient during the 4 months of recovery from C.N.L. She enjoyed traveling. She had a life-long love of animals and adopted and 3 dogs from the Milton Animal League. Joanne enjoyed the Theatre and watching Music Awards, Car Pool Karaoke, PBS Concert series. She loved the music of Chis Bode, Alfie Boe and the Beatles. Her hobbies were making jewelry and photography and gifting her creations to friends and family.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury on, Wednesday May 24, 2023 from 8:30 am to 10:45a.m. Funeral Mass immediately following at 11am across the street at St. Theresa of Avila Church at 11 o’clock.
