Obituary

A celebration of Judy's life will be held Sunday, June 25 from 1~3 p.m. in The Ginley Funeral Home, 131 Main St. Franklin


Judith Eleanor (Berndt) Ferland, 79, of Franklin passed away peacefully on May 14 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Richard E. Ferland for the past 48 years.

Born in Franklin, June 25, 1943, the daughter of the late Randall and Alice Berndt, Judy was a lifelong Franklin resident.

She was a graduate of Franklin High School, received her Bachelor’s Degree from Framingham State College and her Master’s Degree from Worcester State College.

Judy taught for 38 years in the Franklin Public School system as an elementary art teacher. After retirement Judy (affectionately known as “Nina”) spent her days caring for her grandchildren which brought her great joy.

Judy was an incredibly kind and selfless woman who enjoyed sitting on her porch watching the birds, doing puzzles, arts and crafts, and spending time with her family and friends. Judy was also a fabulous cook and enjoyed hosting holiday celebrations.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Bryan Ferland and his wife Jessica of Mansfield and Alissa Raymond and her husband Robert of Brookfield. She is also survived by her siblings, Randall Berndt of Montville, Maine and Dorothy Pike of Medway and many adored nieces and nephews.

Judy is also survived by her 3 grandchildren, Emma, Samuel, and Owen who she cared deeply for.

A celebration of Judy’s life will be held on Sunday, June 25 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) 131 Main Street, Franklin..
