Obituary

CHICOPEE – Roland J. Perreault, 97, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, May 15, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Christopher Heights of Belchertown surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in Holyoke on October 6, 1925, the beloved son of the late Romeo and Yvonne (Marquis) Perreault. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and had lived in the Willimansett section of Chicopee for many years before moving to Fairview in 1996 where he lived the remainder of his life. He served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and attained the rank of Sergeant. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Air Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster and the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon with Six Battle Stars. He furthered his education and graduated from the Northampton Commercial College. He was employed as an Accountant at Holyoke Hospital for many years. He was a communicant of Saint Anne Church in Chicopee and was a member of the Holyoke Lodge of Elks 902 and the American Legion Post 452 in Chicopee. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and his many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Esther M. (Gregory) Perreault who was Called Home on October 26, 2013. They were married on September 2, 1950 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 63 years of happiness together. He leaves his two loving daughters, Joanne M. Rivest and her husband, Bruce, of Belchertown and Carolyn A. Johnston and her husband, Stephen, of Pittsfield; his two cherished grandchildren, Matthew Rivest and his wife, Kate, of Belchertown and Sarah Hoar and her husband, Stephen, of Chicopee; his five cherished great grandchildren, Connor and Elliot Rivest and Brandon, Jacob and Emelyn Hoar; his dear sister in law, Rita Gregory of Agawam; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. His Funeral will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Air Force Military Honors will follow the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075. His family will receive friends on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to his Mass. His family requests that memorial donations be made in his memory to Saint Anne Church, 30 College Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
