Obituary

CHICOPEE – Rene V. Fagnant, 90, of the Aldenville section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Saturday, May 13, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at the East Longmeadow Skilled Nursing Center in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born at home on McKinstry Avenue in Aldenville on September 20, 1932, a beloved son of the late Wilfrid J. and Eva M. (Beaulieu) Fagnant. He was raised in Aldenville, graduated from the former Cathedral High School in Springfield and had lived in Aldenville his entire life. He served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Jarvis DD799 and attained the rank of Fire Technician Petty Officer Second Class . He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Navy Occupation Service Medal, the China Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with One Star and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation. He was employed with the United States Postal Service and retired after 18 years as a Mail Processing Equipment Mechanic. Previously, he was the Former President and General Manager of TV Rental, Inc. in Aldenville. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville where he also served as a Lector, a Cantor, an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Parish Council, a Deanery Representative, served as a Chairman of the Annual Parish Picnics for several years and was an ongoing volunteer for many Parish activities. He also was a member of the Aldenville American Legion Post 337 and the Elder Council 69 Knights of Columbus in Aldenville. During his leisure time, he enjoyed reading, visiting the beaches in Kennebunkport, ME and cheering on his Boston Red Sox. Above all, he loved spending time with his cherished family and many friends. He leaves his beloved wife and soul mate, Claire M. (Goulet) Fagnant. They were married on September 3, 1956 at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Aldenville and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. He also leaves his six loving children, Diane M. Adams and her husband, Jim, of Fort Myers, FL, Suzanne C. Loughman of Hampton, VA, Raymond R. Fagnant and his wife, Suzanne, of East Granby, CT, Michelle M. Salsburg and her wife, Shannon, of Lincroft, NJ, Danielle A. Scavone and her husband, Dan, of North Haven, CT and Nicole M. Ryczek and her husband, Allen, of Chicopee; his 12 cherished grandchildren, Ryan Loughman, Kayla Loughman and her companion David, Griffin Loughman, Colin Loughman and his wife, Marneisha, Eden Loughman, Christian, Matthew and James Fagnant, Anna and Brooks Salsburg and Jack and Henry Ryczek; his three cherished great grandchildren, Camilla Loughman, Nolan Loughman and Ava Loughman; his dear sister, Irene F. Gill of the Indian Orchard section of Springifeld; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother, Richard Fagnant; his three dear sisters, Claire Cadry and her husband, Sidney, Janet Shaw and her husband, Robert, and Doris Fagnant; and his dear brother in law, Donald L. Goulet and his wife, Edna. His Funeral will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 11 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial with United States Navy Military Honors at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends on Thursday, May 18, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
