Obituary

Alexander "Kalani" Q. Monios, age 84, passed away on May 5, 2023. He was born on January 26, 1939 in Oahu, Hawaii, son of the late Benancio Monios and Julia (Ramos) Chantre. He is predeceased by his wife Merle (Recor) Monios and their dog Molly, one son, Michael Monios, one daughter, Tehani Hodge children of Kathleen Monios-Hooper, of CA; 2 brothers, James “Jimmy” Braswell and Phillip Braswell; 2 sisters, Louisa "Nina" Keama (m.Monios) and Cecelia Kaiihue (Annie C. Haney) and one beloved grandchild Ahmad Foreman. He is survived by 4 sons, Kalani Monios of FL. child of Kathleen Monios-Hooper. Ryan Cox of CA Child of Elsie Cox, Kevin Watkins of CA Child of Miriam Alice Watkins and Matthew Klosowski of Chicopee Child of Barbara Monios; 3 daughters, Latisha Senger of PA, child of Linda Lewis, Amy Garcia of Chicopee Child of Linda Tefoe, and Jessica Kelly of PA, child of Carol A Kenna. 2 brothers, Alfonso "Sonny" Monioz of CA and Robert "Bobby" Braswell of CA; 1 sister, Clara DeRouen of TX; 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren along with many other extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Alexander served in the US Army. He later worked as a private investigator for over 8 years and as a professional singer and entertainer for most of his life. He was the first person to perform for the former Hu-Ke-Lau Restaurant in Chicopee, and in PA. He performed at Tahitian Village in South Gate, CA. and has also performed at many other locations. He also had a chance to perform with Don Ho, and created an album called The International Polynesians with Via Whiteman, and other members of his group. He was the first to own a hula school in Chicopee, MA. When he retired, he opened his own food cart, The Big Kahuna in Springfield, MA. Then started his own shows at the nursing homes with occasional special guests, daughter Amy Garcia, and granddaughters Kailianna & Aaliyah Gonzalez, and grandson Keone Foe. He continued making music right up until the end, and created many CD's with himself, and his braddah James Yoshiharu Joubert SR. AKA Jimmy Kauai. He enjoyed singing Karaoke with his braddah's Atoa Ripley, Les Lindsey, and Sione Kaafi. He really loved cooking, and spending time with his family. Special thanks to the love & care that his South Branch staff, that became like family showed him, and our family. We're also grateful for Julio Garcia for always taking such good care of Dad and his braddah Patrick Torcato AKA Pineapple for always being by Dad's side right till the very end. Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 19th, 2023 from 4 pm - 7 pm at the Grise Funeral Home, 280 Springfield St, Chicopee, MA with a Celebration of Life immediately following at The Tigers AC 14 Montgomery St. Chicopee, MA 01020. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
