TAUNTON - Robert C. Haseltine, 85, husband of Ann C. (Gray) Haseltine, of Taunton, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at the Morton Hospital, Taunton, following a short illness.
Born, raised and educated in Haverhill, he was the son of the late Carroll E. & Mary (Anderson) Haseltine.
He was a graduate of Haverhill High School in 1938, the Lowell Textile Institute (now U Mass, Lowell) in 1942, Roger Williams University in RI and Bridgewater State College, where he received his masters degree.
An Army Air Corps veteran of WWII, he served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater with the 91st Airdrome Squadron and attained the rank of Corporal.
Prior to his retirement in 1990, he was a Professor for 19 years at New England Technical Institute. He was previously employed as a superintendent at Beacon Felt, Inc. in Taunton and at Troy Mills, and was a Superintendent at the former Pequot Mills in Salem.
A resident of Taunton for the past 38 years, he previously lived in Marblehead. Mr. Haseltine was a passionate gardener and an avid reader.
Besides his wife, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage, he is survived by 2 daughters, Mary Ann Tourkantonis of Taunton and with whom he resided, Elizabeth Jahreis of Branford, CT, 2 sons, Robert Haseltine, Jr., of Clinton, CT, Thomas Haseltine of Taunton, 6 grandchildren, Peter Jahreis, Katherine Jahreis, Daniel Haseltine, David Haseltine, Benjamin Tourkantonis, James Haseltine, and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Carroll Edwin Haseltine and F. Dudley Haseltine.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 12 Noon in the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem. A visitation will be held from 11 am to Noon, prior to the service. Burial is in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Friends of the Taunton Library, Inc.
