Obituary

Mary (Mimi) Dodge Anthony West, longtime resident of Wellesley, MA, died at the age of 98 on April 29, 2023. She was predeceased in 2010 by her husband of 64 years, Ralph O’Neal West. A native of Massachusetts, born in Boston, she grew up in Fall River, MA and summered in New London, NH. She graduated from the Wheeler School in Providence, RI in 1942 and Radcliffe College in Cambridge MA in 1945. In 1946 she married Ralph O’Neal West and they began a long career in independent school education that took them to Vermont, Texas and back to Massachusetts. Mimi committed herself to and served in what she valued in her profession as parent, caregiver and homemaker. She also was a dedicated volunteer to Radcliffe College, the Harvard College Undergraduate Admissions Office, Church Women United, and St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Music was her source of energy and inspiration. She sang in choral groups and was a devoted member of the St. Andrew’s choir. She enjoyed summer concerts at Tanglewood, and surrounded her family and herself with the sounds of music.

Mimi will be missed by her large and loving family that includes four daughters and sons-in laws: Susan West Ayres and Warren W. Ayres of Wayne, PA; Dorothy West and Peter W. North of Woodbury, CT; Martha West Lyman and Daniel F. Lyman of Manchester, NH; Katherine West White and Robert H White of Williamstown, MA. 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Edward, Robert and Sarah Ayres; Elizabeth, Margaret, and Benjamin North; Anna, Payson and Phoebe Lyman; Katie, Cary and Alex White and 8 great-grandchildren. She also leaves a sister Helen Brayton Anthony James and many nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

A service is planned for Tuesday May 23 at eleven o’clock at St Andrews’s Church, 79 Denton Road Wellesley, MA
