ANDOVER- Mary J. (Day) MacLean, age 92, a resident of Andover for 8 years, died Saturday, June 10, 2006 at her home.
She was the wife of Seward G. MacLean, who died in 1974.
Born in Bras d’Or, on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia Canada, on January 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Louisa (Colvey) Day.
Mrs. MacLean was raised on Cape Breton Island and graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in 1932.
In 1959, she moved to Lynn, MA, where she lived until moving to the Roslindale section of Boston.
While living in Roslindale, she was a communicant and band coordinator of the Sacred Heart Parish.
She later moved to West Roxbury, where she attended St. John’s Church.
In 1998, she moved to West Andover, where she was a daily communicant, sacristan, and member of the Summit Club Social Group of St. Robert Bellarmine Church.
Prior to her retirement in 1999, she was employed for 10 years, as a medical x-ray technician for Dr. H. Cutler of Allston. Mrs. MacLean previously worked as the supervisor of the medical x-ray department at the Longwood Hospital in Boston.
She enjoyed numerous activities including working as a volunteer for the committees to elect Joe Moakley, Dave Finnegan and Maura Hennigan, traveling to Jerusalem, England, France, Italy and Florida, reading and solving cross word puzzles.
In addition, she was an avid Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins fan.
She is survived by one son; Greg V. MacLean and his wife Elaine (Faulk) with whom she resided of Andover; a special niece; Margaret “Beverly” Thomas of Rio Grande, FL ; two sisters; Elizabeth Musgrave of North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and Dorothy Serroul of Bras d’Or, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia; three brothers; William Day and his wife Anita, Joseph Day and his wife Nellie and Lester Day all of Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia; eight grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Mrs. MacLean was the sister of the late Irene LeBlanc, Margaret Nugent, Melinda Ross, Walter, Hartland, Gordon, Lawrence and Eugene Day.
Calling hours Tuesday, June 13th, from 5-8 p.m., at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 198 Haggett’s Pond Rd., Andover. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, June 14th, at 10 a.m., at St. Robert Bellarmine Church. Interment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery on Cape Breton Island, Canada.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Robert Bellarmine Church are requested.
