Lois Carole (Olson) Clergy, 87, of Whitman passed away peacefully at her home on April 29th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John “Jack” Clergy, with whom she shared 58 years of marriage.
Born in Brockton in 1936 to the late Leonard and Mary (Beary) Olson, Lois was the youngest of nine. She is survived by her devoted children, Lynne Artz (Blake) of Whitman, Karen Bloomstein of Whitman, James Clergy of Whitman, Shelley Cahill (Damien) of Halifax, and Gail McDonald (James) of Halifax. She was the loving mother of the late John C. Clergy. Lois is also survived by her 14 adoring grandchildren, 2 great-granddaughters, 2 sisters Mary Menendez and Barbara Grenon, and many nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her siblings: Francis Olson, Miriam Torrey, Raymond Olson, Laverne Hill, Evelyn Alger, and Robert Olson.
Raised and educated in Whitman, Lois graduated from Whitman High School in 1954 and continued on to attend Brockton Secretarial School. In addition to raising her family, Lois enjoyed a long and successful career, culminating in her retirement from Shield’s Health Solutions in 2014.
Never one for idle time, Lois remained very active well into her later years. She was a member of the Colebrook Cemetery Association and previously held the position of President of The Board of Trustees. She enjoyed travel, bowling, bingo, and dining out. Lois’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her loving family.
Lois was a lifelong communicant of Holy Ghost Parish, Whitman.
At her request all services will be private to family, including interment at Colebrook Cemetery, where Lois will be laid to rest with her husband and son.
