Obituary

Eleanor Mae “Ellie” (Watson) Horan died peacefully at home, on April 28, 2023 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

Ellie was born on April 27, 1949 in McKeesport, PA daughter of the late George W. and Clara Jane (Ford) Watson and grew up in the area. The family moved to Spencer, MA in 1966 where they bought and operated Spring Dell Farm. Ellie left many great friends during her junior year at Thomas Jefferson High School and graduated from David Prouty High School in 1967.

She graduated from Salter Secretarial School in 1968 and then worked for Granger Contracting Company in Worcester. She also worked for many years in the men’s department of Filene’s and Macy’s.

Ellie married Paul H. Horan in 1970 and moved to Webster.

Ellie leaves her loving husband after 52 wonderful years of marriage. She also leaves three children, Robert P. Horan and his wife Monique of Putnam, CT; Peter W. Horan and his wife Dawn Marie of Auburn and Judith A. Horan of Webster; six grandchildren, Kira and Kaylynn Horan of Putnam, CT; Patrick, Ellie & Matthew Horan of Auburn and Benjamin Horan of Webster, also many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She also leaves her brother George W. Watson Jr. and his wife Susan of Spencer, sister Rhonda J. Collette and her husband Gary of N. Brookfield and her 92 year old Aunt Ethel Mae Ford of Goldsboro, NC.

Ellie always took great pleasure in her children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending many wonderful hours attending their school and sporting events. She also was a dedicated Christian and taught Sunday school for many years as her children were growing up in the church.

Ellie loved tending to her many flower gardens, loaded with pink tulips, which was always her favorite color. She also enjoyed feeding and watching the wild birds from her back porch. She loved and cared for her basset hounds Brittany and Baxter through the years and she now leaves her current beloved basset hound companion “Tucker boy”.

Ellie had a loving and caring circle of friends and enjoyed many get togethers at each other’s homes. After retirement, Ellie and her husband enjoyed traveling with the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, going on several domestic and international trips, where they met and maintained many great friends.

Ellie would like to extend her sincere thanks to Dr. Switzer and the entire oncology department at Reliant Medical Center in Worcester for their kind and compassionate care. Also, Ellie extends a thank you to Care Central VNA & Hospice and their nurses Tarah and Kelsey for their wonderful care during this time.

Calling hours will be Tuesday May 2nd from 5-7 pm at the Robert J. Miller Funeral Home, 366 School Street, Webster.
Funeral service for Ellie will be Wednesday May 3rd at 1:00 pm in the Funeral Home, followed by burial at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Webster.
