Obituary

Sandra Ethel (Anderson) Jeckel, 86, of Ledyard died on Wednesday, April 26, 2023 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Carl Jeckel.
Sandra was born on August 12, 1936 in Albany, New York, the daughter of Harold and Blanche Anderson. She grew up in Green River and Pearsonvile, NY. Her family then moved to New Preston, CT where she graduated as Salutatorian from Washington High School. She received an Associate Degree from Bryant College where she met her future husband.
Sandra and Carl married on December 10, 1955. They settled in Ledyard, CT where she was a Homemaker and raised her three children. She became active in Scouting first as a Den Mother for her son and then as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughters.
Later on, Sandra went to work as the manager of Cottrell Lamp Shop. She and Carl bought the business in 1988. They sold, repaired and refurbished lamps and light fixtures for many years.
Sandra was a long term member of Ledyard Congregational Church. She and Carl were Youth Leaders for a time. She also served on the Board of Christian Education.
Sandra was an avid quilter. She was a member of Thames River Quilters for almost 40 years. She created many quilts, wall hangings, placemats and pot holders for her family and friends.
Sandra loved her family. She loved her cats. She loved baking especially cookies and pies. She loved cheering on the UCONN men and women’s Basketball teams and of course the Yankees!
Sandra is survived by her brother, Gary Anderson, her sister, Joan (Eric) Pelish, son Mark (Nancy) Jeckel, daughters Andrea (Phil) Barbour and Holly Gallimore, 8 grandchildren, 3 great granddaughters as well as cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a Celebration of Life will be held at a day and time to be announced.
