Obituary


On the afternoon of Monday April 24, 2023, Giselle Dorvil’s life ended unexpectedly but peacefully at the South Shore Hospital, at the age of 68. She succumbed to complications from her stroke. Giselle will be lovingly remembered as a devoted wife, sister, aunt and friend as well as an active member of The First Haitian Baptist Church.

Giselle Dorvil was born on November 22, 1954 in Cerca Lavajal Hinche. She was the daughter of Amelie Dorvil and Clement Fremont. Giselle eventually immigrated to the United States and permanently settled in Boston, Massachusetts. She met her second husband, Francois, at his sister's beauty salon in 1993. Giselle had one dating deal breaker...she only dates Christian men. To court her, Francois began to attend Bible study on Sundays and became a member of The First Baptist Haitian Church. Giselle and Francois married on July 8, 1995.

Giselle had many passions including being an entrepreneur, traveling, cooking,
shopping, and selling Avon. Giselle was a pillar of her church community. She had an angelic voice and sang weekly with her church choir. She was a devout member of the First Baptist Church in Dorchester, MA for over 20 years. Giselle also imparted the importance of putting God first and making prayer an integral part of a Christain life to her family and friends.

Giselle was a kind, loving and hardworking woman. Her strong desire to help people led her to a career in Human Health Services. She had an array of jobs including Home Health Aide and Personal Care Attendant. The clients she cared for described Giselle as a compassionate and caring person. She was passionate about helping others from all walks of life. She was loved by her colleagues at the Hebrew Senior Life where she worked as a Patient Care Associate for 22 years.

Giselle was an avid cook. She will be remembered for her famous signature dishes -
legumes, diri kole ak pwa, and tchaka! She never missed celebrating a birthday. She loved vacationing in her home in Haiti with her family members. She had a collection of beautiful, stylish suits including suits in her favorite color red - which came as a surprise to many family members that red was her favorite color. She had a hat collection that complemented all her outfits.

Giselle will be deeply missed by her husband, Francois, her sisters Denise and Beernadette, nieces, nephews as well as numerous extended family members and friends.


The viewing is scheduled for Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 8:30 - 9:30 AM at the First Baptist
Haitian Church, 397 Blue Hill Ave, Dorchester, MA 02124. The religious service will follow from
9:30 - 11:00 am. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, 500 Canterbury Street, Roslindale, Ma.
Reception will be at Flaming Grill and Buffet, 950 American Legion Hwy, Roslindale, MA 02136.
