Obituary

HOLLIS- Ernestine Lee (Morton) Townsend, 82, of Hollis, Maine passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 22, 2023. She was born to Ernest and Sophie (Abbott) Morton on July 31, 1940. She attended Boothbay Harbor schools and lived there until she met and married her husband Charles (Sonny) Townsend of Buxton, Maine.

“Lee” worked at several jobs but the most recent before her retirement was the successful seafood business she and Sonny ran together. Townsend’s Seafood served the local community from 1983 to 2002. She was well known for her famous fish chowder and homemade biscuits as well as her bread and butter pickles. During her retirement, she kept busy knitting, making afghans for all those that were close to her.

She is predeceased by her husband, Sonny Townsend, her daughter, Danita Trepanier, and four siblings. She is survived by three siblings, Ernest Morton Jr, Dottie Kirouac, and Mary Smale, her close friend/sister-in-law Annette Arnold and Anna Morton, her sons Richard Morton and his wife Jessica, Christopher Townsend and his partner Lori, and Brent Townsend and his wife Lisa, her favorite son-in-law John Trepanier, as well as grandchildren Amanda Chartier, Ashley Chartier, Alexis Chartier, Alayna Rench, Alicia Hood, Cortney Townsend, Lauren Townsend and Brianna Kindred as well as 16 great grandchildren.

Per her request, there will be no services, instead, there will be a private family gathering at a later date to celebrate her life.
