Obituary


Arthur Payne, of Mystic, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8th. Originally from Ontario, Canada, Mr. Payne had been a resident of Mystic since emigrating from Canada in the late 1950’s.

A life-long pilot and sailor, Mr. Payne served in the Canadian Armed Forces in World War II. He was also a master craftsman, woodworker and artisan and is well known for his lead role in the creation and completion of the Mystic River Scale Model which is featured at the Mystic Seaport.

Mr. Payne is survived by his loving daughter, Andrienne Payne - Crawford, of Noank, his Grandson, Erik Johnstone, of Richmond, RI and his Great-Grandchildren, Rhys and Myranda Johnstone, also of Richmond.

Arthur’s family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday from 5-7pm. His family and friends will also be celebrating his life during a Funeral Eucharist at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Mystic on Thursday at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of SECT, P.O. Box 902, Uncasville , 06382.
