Obituary

SOUTHAMPTON - James M. "Jim" Thomas, 70, of Southampton, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Westfield on June 11, 1952, the beloved son of the late James B. and Marjorie (McClure) Thomas. He was raised in West Springfield, graduated from West Springfield High School and lived in West Springfield for many years before moving to Southampton in 1993 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was employed in the Building Services Department and later was an Electrical Engineer at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, retiring in 2017. Jim enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping and was a member of the Southampton Gun Club. He also loved attending outdoor concerts and listening to his favorite band, "The Fabulous Rhinestones". Most of all, he loved taking long rides with his wife, Jeanne. He leaves his loving wife and best friend, Jeanne M. (Simoneau) Thomas. They were married at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with over 41 years of happiness together. He also leaves his dear brother, David M. Thomas and his wife, Hope, of West Springfield; his dear sister in law, Marie Tanguay of Feeding Hills; his dear brother in law, Jean-Louis J. Godbout of Springfield; and his many cherished nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear brother in law, Robert Simoneau who was Called Home on June 22, 2015; and his dear sister in law, Rita (Simoneau) Godbout who was Called Home on August 27, 2002. His family will receive friends on Saturday, May 6, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. His Burial will follow the Service at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's memory to the Alzheimer's Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
