
Terry Purcell of Mystic died Thursday, June 8 at Hartford Hospital after a brief illness. He was 58.
Terry had taught Language Arts and Reading at Cutler Middle School since 1973. Terry was an advocate of youth sports especially basketball and cross-country that he coached for many years. In addition, he coached basketball at Fitch Sr. High School and for the Connecticut Storm AAU basketball association. He believed that what students could learn about themselves through sports, as individuals and as team players, would carry through to other aspects of their lives.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia, his children Caitlin, Courtney, and Colin of Mystic and his brother J. Michael Purcell of Marlborough.
His family will greet relatives and friends at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Tuesday from 5 to 8pm.. A Funeral Eucharist will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11am at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 15 Pearl Street, Mystic. Burial will be private.
Donations in his memory may be made to Cutler Middle School, 160 Fishtown Road, Mystic CT 06355 for a Scholar/Athlete Award to be established at a later date.
