Obituary

It is with immense sadness that we share the sudden passing of our beautiful mother, Eleanor “Ellie” (Flaherty) Piers, who passed away peacefully in her sleep of a broken heart on April 12, 2023.
Born on September 8, 1942, she was the daughter of the late Michael & Margaret (Sheehan) Flaherty of South Boston. Beloved Wife of the late Ronald F Piers, who passed away in 1973. Ellie was the cherished and adored mother of the late Kathleen (Kate) Keaney who passed away only 12 days ago on March 30, 2023 and her wonderful husband Michael Keaney (BPD-11) of South Boston, Eleanor (Nellie) & Frank Geribo of Abington, Sheila & Rick Sherlock of Whitman, Cheryl Piers of South Boston & Ronald (Ronny) & Michele Piers of Whitman.
Mum was one of the strongest ladies you will ever meet. She raised 5 wonderful children as a “single mom” for almost 50 years, but as they say “it takes a village” and we were so blessed to have our village who loved and supported us all.
She leaves behind her loving sisters and best friends Patricia (Pat) & Frank Johnson of Whitman, Donna & John Owens of South Boston, Kathy Flaherty of Rockland & Alice (Piers) O’Connor of South Boston. Ellie is predeceased by her big sister Maureen & her husband Jim Reidy of Quincy, and her brother Michael Flaherty of Rockland.
The MOST amazing Nana, Neen and Neenie-POP to 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren and all her loving nieces and nephews whom she adored with all her heart.
Ellie was a retired employee of over 30 years of Flanagan’s/ Stop & Shop in South Boston (because she had to buy Patrick an ice cream!!). She leaves behind many wonderful co-workers/friends/customers.
Ellie loved being around her family so much. She enjoyed every family party, cookouts in the backyard, and hanging at the kitchen table... if you could get a seat!! Although we will all miss her more than words, we know she is so happy and at peace being with her Ronny and her Kate once again.
Visiting hours will be held at The Casper Funeral home, 187 Dorchester Street, South Boston on Sunday, April 16th from 2:00-5:00 PM. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Monica’s Church on Monday at 10:00 AM. Interment services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, Ellie may be honored with donations to the Kaitlyn Keaney Scholarship Fund.
