Dorothy M. (Chase) Melillo, 92, of Medford, MA, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023 with her loving family by her side. Born in Cambridge, MA, on August 2, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Mary Googins and Sherman Chase. She was raised in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School.
After graduation she took a job with Liberty Mutual. She went on to meet the love of her life, Philip J. Melillo, of Medford. They married in 1955, settled in Medford, MA, and went on to have their cherished daughter, Donna. Dorothy took great pride in raising her family and maintaining a beautiful home. Throughout her life she enjoyed cooking, gardening, and vacationing with her family. She also derived immense joy in spending time with her beloved grandchildren, Heather and David, and more recently, her great-grandchildren, Logan and Jackson.
Dorothy was affectionately known to them all as Nana and was a beloved fixture throughout their lives. She will be fondly remembered for all the elaborate and delicious meals she would prepare for her family for holidays, Sunday dinners, or simply just because. When her grandchildren were younger, they looked forward to going to her house for sleepovers, movies, and walks up the street for ice cream.
Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late Mary Googins and Sherman Chase. Wife of the late Philip J. Melillo. Survived by her daughter Donna Melillo-Whisple and her husband David, of Medford. Cherished grandmother of Heather Whisple-Holland and her husband James of North Reading, and David P. Whisple and his wife Malinda, of Methuen; great grandmother of Logan and Jackson.
A graveside service will be conducted on Monday, April 10th, at 11:15 AM, at the Oak Grove Cemetery, 230 Playstead Rd, Medford, please meet at the front gate.
