Obituary

NAGLE, Michael J. of Dedham passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023 at the age of 94. Michael was the beloved husband of Mary Raftery Nagle for 71 years.

Dearest Father of Julie N. Donahue of Dedham, Joyce A. Sullivan and her husband Dr. Timothy of Weymouth, and Janine Duckworth and her husband Dr. John of Annapolis. Grandfather of Tye N. Donahue and his wife Emily, Perry M. Donahue and his wife Jodi, Reilly R. Sullivan and her husband Cody, Timothy D. Sullivan Jr., Nicholas J. Duckworth and his wife Emily, Olivia C. Grear and her husband David, and Mikaela M. Duckworth and her boyfriend Teddy Berman. Also, Great grandfather of Grace Julia Donahue, James Michael Donahue, Callum Michael Duckworth, McKenna Remington Grear, Finn Michael Donahue and soon to be expected Brogan Cody Sullivan.

Michael was the son of Mary E. (Horgan) and Patrick J. Nagle and the brother of Ellen Meade and her late husband Al, William Nagle and his wife Lucina, and Patricia Consentino and her late husband Michael. He was the dearest son in-law of Julia and Michael Raftery. Mike was the brother in-law of Fran Raftery and his late wife Shirley, Attorney T. David Raftery and his wife Barbara, James M. Raftery and his late wife Frances, Thomas J. Raftery and his late wife Patricia, Dr. John Raftery and his wife Moira, Kathleen Steeves, and Eileen Boyle and her husband James. Mike was the uncle of twenty-three nieces and nephews.

Michael graduated from Mission High School in 1946. Mary and Mike were known as a Mission Couple. Mike played football and basketball in High School.

Mike worked for the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe from 1953 to 1994 in the composing rooms. Mike attended the Artillery School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma as an Artillery Officer Leader. He attended Fort Sill a second time for nuclear warfare classes. Mike also received a teaching certificate from Fitchburg State University for vocational teachers. Mike was a long-time member of the Dedham Men’s Club. Michael served in the Massachusetts National Guard for 26 years, retiring at the rank of Major.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours in the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, WEST ROXBURY on Monday, April 10, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral from the funeral home on Tuesday April 11th at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass is St. Mary’s of the Assumption Church, 420 High Street, Dedham MA 02026 at 10:00 a.m. Interment private.
