Obituary

Pearl D. Pires, 67, of New Bedford died March 29, 2023 unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Dominga (Britto) Pires, Domingo Monteiro and Louis Pires, she lived in New Bedford most of her life and lived 2 wonderful years in California.
She was formerly employed at Universal Hat and Cap and at the Howland-Green Library while being a full time mom. She also worked for the Lord's Army.
Pearl enjoyed listening to music, and her favorite music group was Straight Truth with Sir.Vivor, Stephen E. Perry, III, and Renaldo Almeida. Pearl enjoyed teaching others about the Lord, spending time at the beach, watching David Janssen and Sylvester Stallone movies but most of all she enjoyed her grandchildren, they were her world.
Survivors include her son, Elario Janssen Burgo and his wife Meagan (Vargas) Burgo of New Bedford; her 2 nephews who she helped raise them as her sons, Francisco "Pachine" Baez of Boston and Lance Rivera of New Bedford; the love of her life, Elario Burgo of New Bedford; her siblings, James "Chico" Gelmete, Ronald Gelmete, Rose Beltran, June Cosme, Maria L. (Pires) Ortiz and Carlotta F. Pires; 4 grandchildren, Elzaiah Burgo, Eliana Burgo, Amerie and Roman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Harry "Fife" Gelmete, Patricia (Pires) Baez and Louis Pires, Jr.
Her visiting hours will be held on Thursday, April 6th from 5-8 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. Her Funeral Service will be held on Friday, April 7th at 8:30 AM in the Salvation Army, 619 Purchase St. New Bedford. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
