Martha was a fiercely independent woman with a passion for trees and the environment. Her profound love of books and reading permeated her entire life. She spent years as a volunteer and member of the Board of Trustees of the Gilmanton Corner Public Library. She also volunteered for years at the St. Joseph Parish Food Pantry. She was an active communicant of St. Joseph Parish in Belmont, serving many roles in the church, including teacher, Eucharistic minister, and altar server. Her favorite role was running the annual Book Fair.

Martha was a renaissance woman with a growth mindset. Always open to change and learning, she was sharp, open-minded, curious, and witty, with a keen sense of justice and acceptance. She loved the arts, including opera, theater, classical music and streaming services. She embraced new technology, harnessing its power to stay connected to people and the world.
