
Ira Tillman Paulk, 64, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 11 AM, Friday, June 9, at Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church in Irwin County, with Elder Jimmy Bedingfield, Wyndall Walters and Elder Ed McIntyre officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 until 9 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mr. Paulk was born September 16, 1941, in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Tillman and Melba Paulk. He was a farmer and lived in Irwin County all of his life. Mr. Paulk was a 1959 graduate of Irwin County High School and a 1963 graduate of The University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He was recipient of the Young Farm Family Award in 1970 and the J.E. Leger Agri-Business Award in 2000. He was a director for AgGeorgia Farm Credit and received the Director of Excellence in 1991. Mr. Paulk was former chairman of the Farm Service Agency Committee and a director for the Irwin County Forestry Board. He was former joint owner/operator of Hudson & Paulk Fresh Vegetables and part owner of Farmers Quality Peanuts. He was a Deacon, former treasurer and lifetime member of Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church, a member of the Ocilla Rotary Club, Delta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi. Mr. Paulk also served on U.S. Senator Saxby Chambliss’ Agricultural Advisory Board.
Mr. Paulk is survived by his wife: Sandra Dixon Paulk of Ocilla; daughter and son-in-law: Paige & Keith Wynn of Ocilla; son & daughter-in-law: Wesley & Hope Paulk of Ocilla; 4 grandchildren: Kaylee Wynn, Karsen Wynn, Owen Paulk and Chloe Paulk.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Oncology Center at Tift Regional Medical Center, the American Cancer Society or to the Brushy Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
